So ADHD got in the way of me writing… of course. But I’m back, and I have a major update!
Long story short – I’m medicated!
I was contacted by my care provider on August 2nd to book me in for my first titration appointment with one of their pharmacists which took place two days later on August 4th. My medication arrived yesterday (August 11th), and I took my first dose this morning!
I have been told how the medication has affected people and may affect me – dry mouth, sleep struggles, feeling spacey. I’ll be honest, I did feel spacey – like I’d been hit with adrenaline and horse tranquilisers at the same time – but I was not prepared for the silence.
Normally, my brain feels like it’s running on Windows 8 with twenty tabs open in Internet Explorer, there’s music coming from somewhere, the battery is always low, and every now and then, there’s a faint smell of smoke.
But less than ten minutes of taking my first dose, it all stopped. Blank screen. Absolute silence.
I’ll admit… I cried. Because for the first time in my 28 years on this rock, I felt still. I felt peaceful. I have been able to just say what I want to say without my own brain interrupting me, that train of thought has stayed on the track for entire conversations from start to finish without changing direction or derailing completely. I even had to turn my music down when I out my earphones in today! Usually, I have my music on full blast to drown out that inner Big Brother monologue, but today, I actively jumped at just how loud my music was because there was nothing to drown out!
Now, apparently this medication is going to help me with many things in the long run: Executive dysfunction, sleep deprivation, emotional regulation – what do you mean I’m not going to explode in a rage at the smallest inconvenience? I’ve barely even used by vape today! I haven’t felt the need to! At one point, when I was using it, I thought to myself, “What am I doing?” Even my friend noticed that I wasn’t using it as much today compared to normal.
So now that I’m on medication and I have returned to my blog and my mundane life updates, I will let you know how all of those other things are affected by the medication and if the tablets do actually improve my quality of life (so to speak).
It is good to write to you again, dearest gentle reader. I do hope to see you again soon.
Also, that eclipse, right?
